.NU Domain Partnership Strengthens Policies Against Illegal Use of Internet Domain Names

MEDFIELD, MA, February 23, 2000 - .NU Domain Ltd (www.nunames.nu), one of the fastest growing Top Level Domains (TLDs) on the Internet, today announced a partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to strengthen its long standing policy against illegal use of Internet domain names.

In partnership with the NCMEC, the .NU Domain has implemented a direct link on its Web site (www.nunames.nu) to the NCMEC's CyberTipline (www.cybertipline.com). This direct link enables Internet users to immediately file complaints of suspected child pornography on the Internet with the NCMEC, which then forwards the complaints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, US Customs Service, US Postal Inspection Service and local law enforcement agencies, if applicable, for action.

``Since our inception we have had solid policies and procedures against the illegal use of domain names, including any use for child pornography or child abuse,'' said J. William Semich, President of .NU Domain Ltd. ``Through this partnership we have implemented a mechanism for users to report any suspected illegal use of domain names for child pornography, entrapment or abuse to responsible authorities.''

``Most people don't understand that even though we can revoke a domain name for being used for an unlawful action, that does not result in shutting down the abuser's website,'' added Semich. ``It requires action by a law enforcement agency or court of law to shut down a website completely.''
